About Judith Black

Between the end of October 2008 and early March 2009, Jude will be giving up corporate life to pursue her dream of living and working on the Great White Continent.

During this time she will be working for the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust at Port Lockroy, on the Antarctic Peninsula. Over the course of the Austral summer season, Jude will work as part of a team of four full-time staff at the base. Under the management of Rick Atkinson, project leader, the team will run the living museum, manage the shop and British Antarctic Territory sub-Post Office.  The Trust is a registered charity with proceeds raised from sales in the shop and Post Office being used to fund the future conservation of the base and other historical sites in Antarctica. The team will also contribute to an on-going environmental study which monitors the impact of tourism on Goudier Island.

Jude’s primary responsibility will be Post Mistress and with the help of her colleagues, she expects to cancel approximately 70,000 pieces of outgoing mail over the course of the 2008/2009 season.

  1. It was great meeting you on the ship. Good luck today as you begin your journey. I’m not sure how to get a photo to you. Let me know where I can post it. You look lovely in your purple parka.

Best wishes. I’m glad we crossed paths.
